Low Morale

Laith Bahrani’s animated video to Radiohead’s acoustic version of “Creep” is astoundingly creative and some of the best video I’ve seen. Something Bahrani writes in the notes to the video struck me in particular:

Creep was created as an extension to a series of shorts called `Low Morale’ which I began to develop during a well-paid, comfortable yet soul-destroying job as a senior designer in a multimedia agency. The countless days spent in the run down converted office, churning out banal multimedia and animation for faceless, lifeless, clueless blue chips had taken their toll on my soul. Creep became my creative escape tunnel.

The more online video I see, the more it occurs to me that TV has robbed us of truly creative video by becoming in many cases little more than a bookend for commercials serving “faceless, lifeless, clueless blue chips”. As I’ve often said recently, I can’t wait to see what online video has in store for us.
