They Liked Us, They Really, Really Liked Us

16 May ’06

mesh is over. My first impression? We’re extraordinarily lucky to have had the opportunity to work with so many smart, enthusiastic and generous people. And the feedback we’ve received has been a little overwhelming, actually. I’ve spoken to well over 100 people in the last 2 days who’ve approached me to congratulate us on the event and give us a big thumbs-up.

A lot of the thanks for that goes to other people, and we’ll round that up in a post soon. But it’s pretty satisfying to get this reaction – not least because it’s a validation of our original belief that mesh would be a positive experience for this community. That first evening, just over 9 weeks ago, we knew – we simply knew – that people in this community who shared our interests would come out and support mesh. And having people join us in that effort has been a profoundly satisfying experience.

So right now, the mesh crew thinks the world is a pretty fine place. And if you came to mesh, or supported us by speaking, or through your sponsorship, your encouragement, your advice, or your help (and this is a very long list), we’d like to sincerely thank you for your help. We’ve had a lot of fun and it’s been a real pleasure working with all of you.

Finally, thanks to my mesh partners, Mathew Ingram, Mark Evans, Stuart MacDonald and Mike McDerment. It was a great team.

Update: Mathew posts a synopsis that’s a veritable link-o-rama.

We briefly met at Mesh. My thanks for a great conference. I can honestly say I heard of no complaints in the peanut gallery. Nicely done.

PS> I had no idea you were Dalhousie alumni too…

Hi Rob,

I really wanted to thank you and the mesh team for all of your hard work. mesh was a screaming success!

I also wanted to take the time to thank you personally for helping me out at the end of the conference. For those of you who saw an ambulance outside the MaRS building, it was for me – I’m fine now, and I wanted to share with you that Rob was the first person to get everything in order, ensuring that I received immediate medical attention at the MaRS facility.

I even received a follow up call from MaRS this morning to see how I was doing, and they were much relieved to hear everything was well.

Not only was the mesh conference a great networking and learning environment for creatives, techies and bloggers, it was also a community comprised of people who truly care and reach out to each other.

Thank you again and looking forward to next years mesh!
