Motion Denied for Incomprehensibility

March 6, 2006

Several law blogs are reporting today on an order of a bankruptcy judge in Texas, who denied a motion because the moving party’s materials were “incomprehensible”. Even worse, the Court’s order quoted from the Adam Sandler movie “Billy Madison” to single out the absence from the party’s materials of any rational thought. Good grief.

Whither Satellite Radio?

March 6, 2006

When satellite radio was first announced in Canada my first reaction was to wonder whether radio of any kind – traditional or satellite – could survive podcasting (it hasn’t in our house – or car). With the announcement expected tomorrow of city-wide wi-fi, I’m wondering once again – with the growth of internet radio, where […]

Toronto to Become Wi-Fi Hotspot

March 6, 2006

I’ll confess I had to read this several times, and check my calendar to make sure it’s not April 1, before realizing that it was true – Tyler Hamilton is reporting in the Star today that Toronto Hydro is launching a city-wide wi-fi hotspot, as early as the fall in the downtown core: Toronto Hydro […]

The Latest Round of CRIA PR

March 5, 2006

After a couple of weeks of credulous mainstream media pieces parroting CRIA’s latest PR assault on file-sharing, it’s nice to see Michael Geist taking the CRIA talking points out to the woodshed for a little adult supervision.

Fastmail and the Continuing Quest to be an ex-Outlook User

March 4, 2006

Thanks to Sutha, I’ve recently discovered Chattermail, a most excellent and wildly well-supported push email client for the Treo. But an unruly IMAP implementation at my host has been making life difficult for Chattermail and for Outlook on the desktop (and Outlook already has its own IMAP issues). So, again at Sutha’s suggestion, I’ve now […]

The Lunatics are Running the Asylum

March 4, 2006

at IT Business.ca – for a day anyway, while Shane is out of the office – and replacement Dave Webb has a loaded pun. So go read “My Cell Phone Really Cooks“, the funniest cell phone-related post of the day (high praise, and yes, I know it’s only 6 am).

Tiers for Fears

March 4, 2006

is the name of a post over at “The Only Republican in San Francisco” – easily the best headline writer in the debate over tiered internet services. I’m not as quick to dismiss the disincentive effect of AOL’s email ‘tax’ on keeping spam filters honest, but this is a very smart post from the contra-view.

Why Wireless Number Portability is Essential

March 4, 2006

I’ve blogged here several times about the damage done to the consumer by Canadian cel operators’ resistance to wireless number portability (finally to be adopted in Canada, but at a snail’s pace). The NYT is running a story today that puts the issue in sharp relief. Gist: From computer makers to credit card issuers to […]
