Project Cleanfeed Canada

25 Nov ’06

By now you’ve probably heard of Project Cleanfeed Canada, a new initiative by participating Canadian ISPs to block foreign websites that engage in child sexual exploitation. Engtech posts a great overview of the program, and there’s also an excellent debate between Cory and Michael on the topic at Michael’s blog.

Like many, I’m very suspicious of any attempt to filter speech. As I said some time ago in a related context dealing with state involvement, I’ve always been profoundly troubled by any opportunity on the state’s part to insert itself between citizen and idea. But like many I’m also repelled by this kind of content.

If you’re sorting these issues out for yourself, you have a terrific opportunity to inform yourself – Cory, Michael and others discuss the issues here.
