Will We See Spitzer in the Neutrality Wars?

18 Jan ’06

As the temperature continues to rise on network neutrality, the language of choice is becoming more suggestive that industry observers may suspect collusion among carriers – the latest hint comes from Networking Pipeline. All of this is easy to understand of course, given that broadband is generally controlled by duopolies – in the U.S. and Canada.

I have no idea whether Elliot Spitzer would have any jurisdiction in this presumably largely federal matter, but I expect he does, given his recent involvement in investigating and prosecuting cases that are presumably also U.S. federal law matters. Considering his recent attention to antitrust issues in digital media distribution, is it completely out of hand to wonder whether he’ll make an appearance on this issue as well?
