About the Tagline

The tagline – “any technology distinguishable from magic is not sufficiently advanced” – gets a lot of comments. It’s a quote from the physicist and sc-fi writer Gregory Benford, and is described as a corollary of the third of Arthur C. Clarke’s three laws, “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”.

My brother-in-law Tad, who is an anthropologist, had some interesting observations about the quote, which I blogged here and here.

I like it because it captures the sense of wonder I feel about technology today – every day is an entirely new day, with the world reinvented overnight and new revolutions unfolding everywhere. It’s a great time to be alive.
