Rob, Fred (and others) seem to continue to focus on monetizing the music track (ads embedded in streaming video are just a variation on the pay for play model of DRM.)
A better route for the creators of music – the musicians – is to find a way to monetize their relationship with their fans. Think of the 1,000 true fans concept. A good example of this approach is taken by http://www.76fanclubs.com. We’ve just launched and we hope to get one of the 15 minutes of fame spots at this year’s Mesh to talk about this approach to building a musicians’ music industry.
