How could Bush force the DOJ to nail Spitzer if Bush doesn't even have control over the DOJ to either cause the firings of 8 U.S. Attorneys, or to do so without leaving an ugly political mess on Gonzalez? How about a different spin on things. How about there is tremendous corruption in the DOJ, and the DOJ should have nailed Spitzer over a decade ago when he was a U.S. Attorney doing business with a prostitution ring. How about there are unfortunately many corrupt members of the DOJ, and they protect their relations in organized crime, such as the Wall Street Mortgage Backed Securities and CBO crime rings. (Their crimes have been renamed as the Sub-Prime Crisis). How about Spitzer getting nailed is a reflection of new blood at the DOJ and like most Americans, they are pissed at 9/11 and by extension, corruption. How about there is a new age emerging in the U.S.A. and there will be quite a few more corrupt heads to fall before it is over. How about the lawyers who Spitzer protected won't have much time before they get the nock on their door. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Do you want to strike a deal with a Federal Prosecutor before or after you are arrested? I'm glad I never made partner at Weil Gotshal. Except if the crime is illegal wiretapping, robbing from the public purse (but not in Canada), lying to send a nation into a war costing hundreds of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars, sanctioning torture, illegal kidnappings, breaking the Geneva Convention, et cetera. Then you're clear. But illicit sex? Bring on the inquisition! And that seems to be the main difference between Canada and the U.S. Financial scandal down south gets you re-elected. Up here, to quote one of our greats, the state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation... ...even if that bedroom is a bedroom of state! Don’t do the crime unless you can do the time.
