At this point it strikes me as almost negligent – it’s certainly foolish – to suggest that adding 1,000 more troops is going to make a difference. And the idea that this Government – or any Government, for that matter – isn’t going to “sugercoat” what’s happening in Afghanistan, is simply juvenile, self-serving and not helpful.
