It&#039;s a requirement under federal law.  Merchants with older equipment had a sunset provision which is coming up on deadline.  Most merchants have equipment that is newer that 1-1-2005 and they have to comply now.  FACTA is an amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The statutory cite is: 15 U.S.C. §1681c.
