“Bomblike” Devices Hoax

02-1-07 · 4 comments

From CNN, via Tim Lee: “Two men pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges they created panic by placing “bomblike” electronic light boards displaying a cartoon character with an upraised middle finger throughout Boston. Assistant Attorney General John Grossman called the light boards “bomblike” devices and said that if they had been explosive they could have damaged transportation infrastructure in the city.” Yes, and if they had been nuclear bombs, they would have killed millions. Of course, if they had been pecan pies, they would have been delicious. Has the world lost its mind?

One quote said they were suspicious because they had wires and circuits – what doesn’t?

I can perhaps understand some initial trepidation on the part of the authorities until they looked at one – but arresting and charging the guys that did it!!??

The world lost its mind a long time ago – its now lost its sense of humour.

Well said, David.

The terrorists have won – and I am not using that cliche gratuitously. Those who would seek to completely disrupt the (North) American way of life through fomenting fear and paranoia throughout the populace have proof of their success in this incident.

What the aftermath demonstrates is a truth that has existed since ancient times – it is a crime to reveal the foolishness of the emperor, even one that is (nominally) democratically elected. Unfortunately for the two arrested, their defence is likely an appeal to First Amendment rights, that have long ago been rendered null and voice in the Excited States of America.

Yes, precisely. And I wonder why that truth is so – can it be that the voters simply cannot bear to accept responsibility for the poor choices they’ve made?
