The Mythical Dead Pool
Much has been made of late of a Web 2.0 dead pool - it’s been a TechCrunch meme, and Steve Rubel channeled Mike on it earlier this week. There’s a reason for a growing pool: Time - it’s getting later, not earlier (funny thing, that). In the beginning, there was cash, now, for those that started then, there often isn’t (insert hourglass metaphor here). But new businesses (or features masquerading as such) are still popping up (and the more that do, the more there will be that fail in 12-36 months from now). And so yes, the list of failed companies will continue to grow - but that’s not Web 2.0 - that’s time.
