Funny Math

Fred Wilson gets about 2mm page views a year (30K uniques a month according to his FM blurb) and makes about $30K a year off of web and feed advertising (see comments).

In 2006 Guy Kawasaki got about 2.4mm page views (90K uniques a month according to his FM blurb) and made $3,350.

Fred’s posted CPM for 120 x 600 is $30 and Guy’s is $20. They presumably target more or less the same readers.

Funny math.

the numbers are indeed strange

i get about 55k uniques. the FM data is old and wrong. i should update that.

guy get about 90k uniques

i have 8,407 inbound links according to technorati and guy has 21,895 inbound links

guy is ranked around 50th in technorati and i am rated 799.

i get about 2mm page views per year, guy gets 2.4mm.

i have 16,500 subs to my main feed and another approx 1,500 subs to my vc only feed

guy has 21,000 rss subs

so clearly guy has a larger audience, but the difference between the two blogs varies significantly depending on what measure you look at.

the reason i make so much more than guy is i have been using FM and FeedBurner for a long time and Guy has not. of the $30k/year I make, only about $2000 is from text ads. the rest is from banners and ads in feeds.

Thanks, Fred. New math indeed. And good advertising for Batelle.

That’s very interesting – and as it should be, I suppose. But I wonder whether FB is getting enough visibility for this potential ….
