I love Chilling Effects Clearinghouse, that great debunker of intellectual property demand notices sent by ill-informed or unduly aggressive attorneys:
Do you know your online rights? Have you received a letter asking you to remove information from a Web site or to stop engaging in an activity? Are you concerned about liability for information that someone else posted to your online forum? If so, this site is for you.
But, alas, it’s U.S. only. And so it’s a rare treat to see the competent and diligent debunking of a Canadian demand notice. Today, Michael Geist dissects a Canadian demand notice sent in anticipation of the broadcasting of the World Cup this summer. It’s funny because it’s true.
