Join us at mesh
We’re delighted (and maybe a little proud, too) to announce that the website for mesh, Canada’s Web 2.0 conference, is now live. mesh is the result of the efforts of Mathew Ingram of the Globe & Mail, Mark Evans of the National Post, Mike McDerment of SecondSite, Stuart MacDonald, the founder of Expedia.ca, and me to create a forum where people who share our passion for the Web can connect, share ideas and inspire each other. Join us on May 15th and 16th at the MaRS Collaboration Centre (and yes, there will be wifi).
mesh will bring together great keynotes and speakers, including Om Malik, Paul Kedrosky, Andrew Coyne, Michael Geist, Tara Hunt, Paul Wells, Steve Rubel, Jason Fried, Stowe Boyd, Amber McArthur, Ren Bucholz, Andrew Baron, Chris Messina, David Crow (whew!) and many others, to share our passion for the Web and how it’s transforming media, communications, business and society. At mesh you’ll hear from thought leaders, connect with peers, and get a better understanding of the impact of new developments online.
Over the coming days and weeks we’ll have lots more news about mesh and what we have planned for it, so please drop by the site and subscribe to the feed. We hope you’ll consider meeting with us, and sharing a vision for the future of the Web, at mesh.

I know this will probably come off as whining (probably because it is), but….
Why can’t any of the conferences I’m interested in attending be held in BC. (Maybe somewhere in the Vancouver area.)
Instead, I’ve got to fly all over the place. Most of these conferences seem to be in California and varios countries in Europe. (And now this one is in Ontario.)
There’s a lot of smart people who live in BC who would love to have something local.
(Sorry for the whining.)

Hi,
Charles, there is a conference called Norther Voice each february that take place in Vancouver each year:

Rob, I’ll do my best to be there, it will certainly be a great Canadian event in 2006 (at least for people interesting in the Web and its impact in the World).
Salutations,
Fred
Charles,
I think the lesson from mesh is that if you want a conference in Van, you need to find and engage with the local blogging, journalist and tech community. The people behind mesh clearly did that, and it’s turning into something great that is a draw for many of the experts coming from outside the Toronto area.
