A Fourth National Wireless Carrier?
The Globe reports on rumours that the current telecom policy review may result in the federal government recommending “creating a fourth national wireless carrier. It’s seen as a way for Ottawa to stimulate competition — the percentage of Canadians with cellphone service lags the United States and other countries.”

if this story ever comes true, i’d be extremel surprised. i mean, who’s going to invest hundreds of millions of dollar to create a new carrier in a market dominated by three well-financed companies? if there’s going to be more wireless competition, it won’t be another wireless carrier but MVNOs that will piggy-back on an established carrier’s network. this story is rooted in idle speculation, not fact.
