Rogers Announces Fall Launch of HSDPA

Rogers Communications Inc. said Monday that it has awarded Ericsson AB the contract to supply a very high-speed wireless data network that will be faster than anything currently operating in this country.

Rogers Wireless, Canada’s largest cellphone company since it acquired the Fido network in late 2004, said it will begin deploying the UMTS/HSDPA technology immediately for first commercial launch in the fall.
It also said the HSDPA network will be deliver wireless speeds of up to 1½ to two times faster than EVDO networks — the latest technology being deployed by Rogers’ rival Bell Mobility, which began its commercial rollout last year.
