Standardized Sync and Charge Ports on Devices

13 Dec ’05

Techdirt reports that the three largest mobile operators in South Korea have decided that all their phones should have standardized sync and charge ports:

No more hunting down new chargers and cables when people there get a new phone, no more searching for compatible headsets and other accessories. Forget this 3G stuff, standard charger ports is the way to go.

It’s an almost inexcusable and certainly unacceptable fact of life that equipment manufacturers have treated their customers this way. Really, is there anything more ridiculous about this industry than the lack of interoperability? Let’s hope we don’t continue to lag behind South Korea’s celphone industry on this issue.
