It seems more likely that journalist Joe Friesen didn't understand what the story was in that story, and the cryptic tone was purely accidental-- the byproduct of an article that more closely resembles a press release rewrite.
I work for one of the largest and most influential audio book companies in North America (and we're Canadian, with HQ 40 mins from the Globe offices, and we recently launched a direct download service), but no one here was contacted for background, let alone a quote. Mr. Friesen replied that he hadn't known that Simply Audiobooks existed, although we sell, rent and have downloads of books on tape, CD and .wma file, and we're in the top ten for all relevant search engine keywords, on all the major search engines.
