Sony’s Rootkit a Boon for Scriptkiddies


Last week I posted on Sony’s DRM rootkit I mentioned that Steve Gibson had a special edition of his Security Now! podcast to cover the issue. In the podcast Steve explained how easy it would be to conceal malware using the rootkit.

Well, it’s happened, and RealTechNews explains how. Favourite line from the article: “Interesting that this seems to be the first major corporation to offer tools to Script Kiddies.”

    In Canada, we are legally allowed to make a copy of any CD we have purchased because the recording industry collects a levy on every blank disk sold. Sony’s and other media companys’ DRM use in Canada is a violation of the legal rights of Canadians. How could a lawsuit regarding this be pursued????
