The Globe is reporting that the Cabinet is flummoxed by the satellite radio issue, and that no decision is expected any time soon.
A group of top federal cabinet ministers has failed to resolve a high-stakes battle over the future of satellite radio in Canada, reflecting a deep split within the government on the controversial issue.
A seven-person ad hoc cabinet committee struck to look into the issue of satellite radio licences decided yesterday not to do anything. The move leaves in doubt how – or if – the Liberal government will deal with an appeal of a Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission decision in July to grant licences to two satellite radio providers to give Canadians access to U.S. stations.
Update: Greg Terrence of Indie Pool has an opinion piece in the Globe today on this issue.
