Jeff Pulver writes a couple of posts about an experience he recently had with port blocking on 5060 in a London hotel. He wonders whether blocking a port used by VoIP was intentional, and what comes next - blocking ports used by a SlingPlayer to protect hotel TV revenue?

Hi Rob,
I’m unsure of the legalities of this type of action in the UK but I’m pretty certain that in Australia a carrier cannot take this type of action. I can however see it becoming more and more of an issue with Hotels and the like who are scared of losing revenue rather than embracing the new opportunity to provide a value added service. It also becomes an issue when you look at video streaming and other bandwidth intensive products… who pays for the extra downloads? If you can pass the cost on to your hotel customer then its great.. user pays. Otherwise it could prove costly.
