Tech Recruiting is Hard

06-12-05 · 0 comments

Gretchen, a Microsoft recruiter, blogged recently on the difficulty of doing tech recruiting well – and took a few shots at her colleagues who come to her looking for the impossible. Gretchen’s comments are an interesting insight into the recruitment process and how H/R works with the operating people.

But the post has also been controversial (read the comments), and is also an object lesson on how employee blogging can result in management headaches. I’m not saying this is a bad thing – there is an authenticity to the post that could be useful and productive – but airing dirty laundry in public is going to give most managers a long pause …

Notably, the post has also been mentioned as a possible sign of growing frustration inside Microsoft at the difficulty of competing for “top talent”.
