I recently stayed at a Starwood Hotel in New York – I gave them my e-mail address at registration, and today they sent me a follow up e-mail asking me if I want to receive e-mail notices of future promotions. Significantly, they said:
This is a one-time message from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. requesting your communication preferences. If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you do not wish to receive Starwood messages and will cease further communications.
This is to my mind a model example of good corporate behaviour. And when I read it, something interesting happened: I trusted them.
The next time I travel to New York, I’ll be staying there again ….
