Judy Sgro has announced that she is suing pizzeria owner Harjit Singh for defamation over the fiasco that led to her recent resignation as Immigration Minister.
What happened to Ms. Sgro seemed nightmarish, and terribly unfair. But it is also the kind of thing that is unlikely to ever be resolved through litigation, so the interesting question that is raised is – why litigate this?
Reason #1 – because enough people will believe that if you are suing, the other party must have done something wrong. That alone will win you over some supporters, but of course it also helps to keep the whole ugly business in the public eye.
Reason #2 – because it creates a pretext to refuse to answer questions from the media.
