VoIP Begins to Demonstrate Another Dimension to its Potential

30 Dec ’04

In large part, the buzz about VoIP so far has been about price, and there is no question that this a major draw.  But the next phase, perhaps equally if not more disruptive to the status quo, is accelerating: better service.  IP-based networks by their nature offer dramatically greater opportunity to elaborate and tailor the service offering.  This is one of the remarkable aspects of VoIP for small business telephony, for example – big guy capability at a small guy price, and it’s one of my favourite things about using VoIP in my practice.  Via Om, AT&T’s Callvantage is on the case: some of these extras are merely catch up, but some are clever and useful services.  What works for the customer, time will tell.
